City of Springfield seeks Proposals for North End Main Street Parcel
Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief Development Officer (CDO) Tim Sheehan announced today that the City of Springfield will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase and redevelopment of ES Main Street in the Memorial Square neighborhood of the city’s North End on Wednesday, August 17th. Interested proposers can contact the city’s Office of Procurement at that time to request the RFP.
“CDO Tim Sheehan and I are committed to seeking positive redevelopment options for this key property on Main Street in the North End,” said Mayor Sarno. “The redevelopment of this parcel will continue the momentum of recent investments in the neighborhood including the Main Street roadway improvements, the new Brightwood-Lincoln Elementary School and the recent groundbreaking for the Barbara Rivera Community Center.”
The city has worked closely with the New North Citizens Council on these neighborhood efforts and look to the redevelopment of this parcel as one that will result in an active Main Street use that will serve the needs of the neighborhood as well as improve the streetscape.
The 14,174 square foot site is zoned Business A and is assessed at $72,700, and is currently entirely vacant. It is located at the corner of Main Street and Waverly Street, just opposite the Puerto Rico Market & Bakery. In addition to the neighborhood investments, the site is located just a few blocks from Baystate Medical Center, as well as the many medical offices in the Wason Avenue area.
Historically the property was home to a large four-story apartment building that encompassed much of the block.
Proposals are due September 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Interested parties can visit https://www.springfield-ma.gov/finance/procurement, after August 17th to request the RFP requirements.
