Springfield JCC To Host Festive Block Party for Special Needs Program

SPRINGFIELD, MA (March 22, 2021) – The Kehillah (Special Needs) Department at the
Springfield Jewish Community Center will host its CHEERS Block Party on Sunday, September
26. The event, a celebration of the growth of one of the area’s leading adaptive and inclusive programs, will be held at the J (1160 Dickinson Street, Springfield).

What’s there to look forward to? A lot – truly, fun for all ages! Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs and a blanket to spread out on. There will be a wide variety of food trucks, a DJ,games, and activities for all ages and ability levels. All are invited to have fun and to learn more about Kehillah programming.

In 2018, the CHEERS event engaged more than 270 people, and the JCC raised more than $20,000 so that people of all ages and ability levels can enjoy activities like the J’s fully inclusive summer camp, adaptive aquatics lessons and more.

“We have so many amazing programs at the J for people of all ability levels, but we can always do more,” says Tina Edwards, Kehillah Director at the Springfield JCC. “Our Block Party isn’t just one of the most fun events on the calendar, it’s a great opportunity to share what we’re doing with the community, and to raise essential funds for even more programs.”

About the Kehillah Program:

Kehillah means “community” in Hebrew. The mission of Kehillah, the Special Needs Department of the Springfield JCC, is to provide quality recreational, social, and enrichment programs for children, teens, and adults with special needs. Kehillah’s goal is to create a feeling of community at the J, while fostering a fun and welcoming environment for individuals of all
abilities. All Kehillah programs provide a supervised, safe, and nurturing inclusive environment for participants to enjoy themselves, build self-esteem, increase independence, experience new places and things, improve social skills, and cultivate meaningful relationships.
