Monson Savings Bank Presents $1,000 Donation to Rick’s Place, Helping to Provide Support to Grieving Children & Families

Monson, MA – As a part of their annual Community Giving Initiative, Monson Savings Bank donated $1,000 to Rick’s Place, an organization that extends support to grieving children and their families during some of life’s most trying times. In the past two years the organization has seen a rise in the need for grief support services because of the tragic loss of lives as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“We are extremely grateful for the donation being made to us by Monson Savings,” said Bill Scatolini, Board President of Rick’s Place. “Currently, there are numerous children and families struggling with the loss of a loved one, whether it be COVID related or not. Our free services offer children and families an opportunity to work through their grief in a safe setting with others who have also experienced loss. Together, they are able to create a sense of community and begin their healing journey.”

Dan Moriarty, Monson Savings Bank President and CEO, proudly presented the donation to Bill Scatolini, Board President of Rick’s Place, at Monson Savings’ Corporate Office located in Monson.

“Rick’s Place provides children and families living in our communities with very important services and resources, giving them access to grief support at no cost.” said Dan Moriarty, Monson Savings Bank President and CEO. “We are very proud to donate to Rick’s Place. We know that this donation will help the organization to continue offering the vital services they provide to support our community members in need.”

Rick’s Place is a non-profit providing grief support to children and their families. The non-profit was founded in 2007 as a new initiative of the Rick Thorpe Memorial Fund. The Post Office Park location was opened to honor the memory of Rick Thorpe, a young father and Wilbraham, Massachusetts native who died in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. Rick’s Place supports children, teens, age 5-18 years, and their families after a loved one has passed away. Via assisted, cost free peer support groups, Rick’s Place gives grieving children and their caregivers a safe place to remember their loved ones, honor their memories, and prevent the isolation that such a loss can produce.
