Monson Savings Bank Hosts Build-a-Bike Event at South End Community Center

Monson, MA – Earlier this year Monson Savings Bank announced their 150 Build-a-Bike campaign as a part of their 150th Anniversary celebration. The community bank has purchased over $20,000 worth of bikes and helmets for local children. Most recently, Monson Savings held a Build-a-Bike event at Springfield’s South End Community Center.

It was a fun and exciting moment when the Monson Savings Bank team welcomed the special young guests and their family members at the South End Community Center. The children were eager to build their very own a bicycle. Smiles were abundant as the children caught a glimpse of some of the pre-assembled bikes on display.

The Monson Savings team quickly got to work assembling bikes under the guidance of Ray Plouffe, owner of Family Bicycle Shop in East Longmeadow. Some children got in on the building action, learning how to use tools and pump air into tires.

Children were paired with the appropriate bicycle size, seat heights were adjusted, training wheels added, and helmets fitted. Monson Savings Bank brought a selection of bright and fun decal stickers for children to decorate their bikes and helmets.

Monson Savings Bank developed the 150 Build-a-Bike events as a way to celebrate the Bank’s 150th year of community banking and as a way to bring joy into the lives of local children living in the communities that the Bank serves. Dan Moriarty, Monson Savings Bank President and CEO, shared his delight over the recent event’s success.

“All of us were very excited for the South End Community Center Build-a-Bike event. The evening was awesome. Bank employees had a ball interacting with the kids and helping them build their bikes,” said Dan Moriarty, President and CEO of Monson Savings Bank. “It was all around a fulfilling experience for everyone. Seeing the joy on the faces of the children as they rode their bicycle around before taking it home with them was priceless.”

Throughout the summer, Monson Savings Bank will also partner with Educare Springfield and the Quabbin Wire to host 150 Build-a-Bike events, continuing to spread happiness to children and families throughout the area.

“We are grateful to Monson Savings Bank for partnering South End Community Center for a Build-a-Bike event,” said Wesley Jackson, Executive Director of South End Community Center. “The kids were thrilled to find out they would be receiving a bike of their very own and were having a wonderful time interacting with the Bank’s team. We are glad that Monson Savings Bank is invested in bettering the lives of children in our local communities.”
