Mayor Sarno and HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris Announces Springfield Reaches ‘Yellow’ Milestone Springfield Now a Moderate-Risk Community

Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris are pleased to announce that the City of Springfield has reached a very important milestone in the efforts to mitigate and defeat the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.  According to the Commonwealth’s latest COVID-19 risk assessment data Springfield has been designated as a “Yellow” / Moderate-Risk community.

The State Department of Public Health’ COVID-19 Dashboard provides weekly public health information, including town-by-town cases and testing information.  The recent report issued on Thursday, March 18, 2021, has designed the City of Springfield as a “Yellow” Moderate-Risk community.

Mayor Sarno stated, “Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and I are very happy to hear that our Springfield has now moved to a yellow zone COVID-19 category.  This is a testament to Helen and my administrations continued steady and sure leadership partnering with our medical/health professionals, residents and businesses, and our federal and state officials and non-profits in establishing proactive preventative and mitigation strategies to move to defeat this COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic based on public health, medical, and science guided info, while balancing re-opening our economy.  While we are cautiously optimistic, we must remain and stay ever vigilant.  Our overall efforts will continue to bring back full public, business and consumer confidence – next milestone is green baby green!”

“Congratulations to the residents of the City of Springfield, your patience, resilience, and ability to continue to follow the guidance is admirable and has resulted in this positive trend.  Although we as a community are trending in the right direction, the COVID-19 Coronavirus is still a highly contagious transmittable virus.  I want to remind our residents and businesses to continue to follow and adhere to all of our public health and safety measures,” said HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris.  “I have every confidence that we will continue to defeat this virus and eventually we will return to the green zone status.  Please continue to wear your face coverings, practice good hand hygiene, and social distancing.  We must remain vigilant.”
