Freedom Credit Union celebrates 100th anniversary

Freedom Credit Union is celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2022. Freedom’s story began back in 1922 when it was chartered as the Western Massachusetts Telephone Workers Credit Union. Over the past 100 years, they have expanded their membership to include anyone who lives, works or attends school in four counties in western Massachusetts and two counties in northern Connecticut. They have also grown one location in Springfield to 10 branches across western Massachusetts.

As a credit union, Freedom is different from many other financial institutions in that members have a say in how the credit union is run and can elect the Board of Directors who serve to benefit the members rather than stakeholders. Because they are part of the community, Freedom also has made an incredible commitment to public service, giving back by volunteering or providing financial contributions as much as possible.
