ESE Aids in Distribution of Cabot Cheese to Area Farmers

Eastern States Exposition has enabled Agri-Mark/Cabot Creamery Cooperative to provide cheese and other products to area farmers who are part of the company’s cooperative.

“The Big E to the rescue!” proclaimed Bill Beaton, Agri-Mark/Cabot CEO. “COVID-19 cut-off our ability to sell our farm families their own products. Each farm stand depends on buying Cabot for their resale. We could not stage the Cabot products sale in our West Springfield plant for fear of risking essential workers. With deepest gratitude and respect for supporting Agriculture for decades, this time The Big E team did our farmers an exceptional favor to allow us to stage delivery on its grounds. Their long-term support has meant the world to us.”

As more consumers turn to local sources for their foods, the demand for cheese and other products has risen at area farm stands. The local dairy cooperative, which is limiting all non-essential visitors to their production plants during the COVID-19 pandemic, was in search of a loading dock to allow their farmers to continue bringing their foods to market. With a mission to promote agriculture and farming, Eastern States Exposition has the facilities and offered to provide its central location for area farmers to pick up product to sell at their farm stands.

Eugene J. Cassidy, president and CEO of ESE, said, “Eastern regional agricultural production, food production, food security and promoting our local economy are all at the core of the Exposition’s mission. The Cabot cooperative is an important part of the food chain and ESE is always ready to lend a hand. Giving Cabot this central location helps area farmers continue to feed America. And our hope is that our friends and neighbors support Cabot and regional agriculture at this difficult time and beyond.”

“We are so grateful for this partnership with The Big E. This connection is helping our farm store to stock the Cabot products from our cooperative, which allows us to continue supplying our community with the local dairy products they love,” Kelly Barstow, of Barstow’s Longview Farm, said.

The Cabot Creamery Cooperative is owned by local dairy farmers throughout New England and New York as members of Agri-Mark.
