Dr. Elizabeth R. DeSombre to Present MCLA Green Living Seminar Series Talk April 14
NORTH ADAMS, MA—Dr. Elizabeth R. DeSombre, Camilla Chandler Frost Professor of Environmental Studies at Wellesley College, will give a talk titled “Individual Behavior and Global Environmental Problems” as part of MCLA’s Green Living Seminar Series at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
Green Living Seminar Series webinars are free and open to the public; community members can register for each lecture at mcla.edu/greenliving. All seminars take place weekly on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. through April 14.
Dr. DeSombre’s recent projects have involved the impact of flag-of-convenience shipping, the regulation of international fisheries, protection of the ozone layer, and global environmental institutions generally. Her recent books include Flagging Standards: Globalization and Environmental, Safety, and Labor Regulations at Sea (MIT Press, 2006), and Global Environmental Institutions (Routledge, 2006). She has two upcoming books on the global politics of fishery conservation, Saving Global Fisheries and Fish, co-authored with J. Samuel Barkin.
She is the director of Wellesley’s environmental studies program and is involved with developing and teaching in the tri-campus Sustainability Certificate program with Olin and Babson Colleges, and in efforts to improve Wellesley College’s environmental impact. She serves as the book review editor of the journal Global Environmental Politics, and has served on national and international task forces addressing international environmental issues, and as an external reviewer for departments and programs in environmental studies, international relations, and political science.
Every semester, MCLA’s Green Living Seminar Series hosts lectures by local, regional, and national experts organized around a central theme related to the environment and sustainability. The 2021 series theme is “Individual Actions and Environmental Sustainability.” The series is a presentation of the MCLA Environmental Studies Department and MCLA’s Berkshire Environmental Resource Center.
